Government Securities and Public Debt Outstanding

Statistical processing of data regarding the issuance of Government securities.

The graph shows the trend of the weighted average interest rate of domestic government securities, calculated on the basis of the gross yields on the issue of the securities issued in the single year. Between 2023 and 2024, the value went from 3.76% to 3.53%.
The graph shows the evolution of the structure of public debt. The left vertical axis (expressed as a percentage) shows the composition in terms of floating-rate, fixed-rate and indexed issuances, while the right vertical axis (expressed in years and fractions of a year) shows the average life of government securities. The reference years are shown on the horizontal axis, from 31.12.1993 to 30.09.2024. Between 2023 and 2024, fixed-rate securities went from 78.05% to 78.53%, floating-rate securities from 11.08% to 11.03% and index-linked securities from 10.87% to 10.44%. The average life went from 6.97 to 6.98 years.
The graph shows the composition of outstanding government securities as of 30.09.2024. BTP represent 72.04% of the total, followed by indexed BTP with 7.43%, CCTeu with 5.62%, BOT with 5.22%, BTP Italia with 2.76%, BTP Valore 2.60%, foreign currency securities with 1.62%, BTP Green with 1.87% and lastly BTP Futura with 0.82%.
